What do candles consist of?

Paraffin wax is a mineral oil product and recovered as an ancillary product from the oil refinery. Practically all candles today are made of paraffin wax.
Stearin is a natural product and consists of vegetable oils or fat. Stearin is renewable and biologically degradable.
Only small quantities of beeswax – the traditional material for candles for hundreds of years – are used for candles today. Prized, natural beeswax is recognisable from its very pleasant honey smell and typical yellow colour.
