The RAL quality label

Documented safety: The "CANDLE quality label" is a brand protected RAL quality label. "RAL Deutsches Institut für Gütesicherung und Kennzeichnung e.V." (German association for quality assurance and designation) is responsible in Germany for monitoring the proper use of quality labels.

RAL recognised the "CANDLE quality label" in August 1997. The quality label is solely awarded by the Gütegemeinschaft Kerzen e.V.

Which products are allowed to sport the quality label?

A manufacturer is only allowed to sport a product with a quality label when it has passed a qualifying examination. The testing conditions are concrete, objective and exactly defined. To guarantee continuous high quality, the manufacturer also undertakes to regularly monitor his products.

1. The initial test:

The candles to be tested must be taken from ongoing production. A check is made in detail on length of burning and behaviour. The raw materials used are also scrutinised. Tea lights and grave lights must comply with special conditions adapted to the intended use.

2. Own monitoring:

It ensures, constant, dependable quality. The manufacturer must continuously examine his products. This involves regular burning samples on which the same strict criteria are imposed as for the initial test.

3. Outside monitoring:

The manufacturer is visited at least once a year: An independent specialist inspects production.

What the CANDLE quality label promises:

Given proper handling, candles with quality labels burn evenly and do not drip. Declared in this manner, the consumer can be sure that the candle will burn for the time shown on the package. The CANDLE quality label not only promises good looks. Forms, colours, dimensions and wick property also stay the same and are dependable. Quality label candles are practically smoke-free and only glow for a second after being put out. The candle makers undertake not to use any pollutant-charged raw materials or candle colours and varnishes which may be detrimental to health.
